ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist men's soccer team suffered their third loss in a row against a tough Central Methodist team, falling 2-0.
The Spartans were looking to end their losing streak, while also giving Central Methodist their first loss of the season. From the start of the match, MBU saw why the Eagles were undefeated with their quick play, and ability to spread the field very fast.
Trouble happened for Missouri Baptist in the 39th minute, when Nick Farrell got a red card, forcing the Spartans to play down a man the rest of the game. The team wasn't able to get anything going offensively as the Eagles forced 20 shots in the first half, holding Missouri Baptist to three.
Even though the team was outshot, the Spartans held their own with 10 players keeping the game scoreless with impressive defensive play.
Heading into the second half, the Eagles continued to show their firepower with shots missing just wide or high. With each minute passing, the confidence grew for the Spartans as the team knew they weren't out of the game at all. The team had their chances as both Joe Whitacre and Danny Traylor had their shots miss just wide.
Midway through the second half, the game was still tied, until finally after all the shots taken, the Eagles were able to break through. Murun Altankhuyag scored in the 75th minute, breaking the tie and giving CMU a 1-0 lead. Just four minutes later Aaron Heathman blasted his first goal of the season, past goalie Ethan Brunk giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead and the win.
The Spartans were outshot 36-8 in the match, and even though Missouri Baptist lost, the team showed a lot of fight to stay in the game and try to win it.
The teams' record falls to 1-6, but will for a win at conference foe Columbia College on September 25th. Game time will start at 7:00 p.m.
