ST. LOUIS, Mo.- After getting their first win on the season in front of the home crowd last week, the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team continues to search for their first road win, as MBU fell at Dordt College 4-1.
Dordt played the possession battle in the first half, keeping the ball away from the Spartans, while pushing the offensive pressure. The game stayed scoreless until the 30th minute, when Eric Grootenboer headed the ball past goalie Ethan Brunk giving the Defenders a 1-0 lead.
The Spartans continued to fight until the end of the half, and with the help of the wind at their backs, the game swayed back to MBU. After Brunk blasted a kick near mid field, senior Gavin Cuddy got the ball and blasted a shot towards the net, that carried over goalie Jon Brinkerhoff's hand and hitting the bottom of the crossbar crossing the goal line tying the game up at 1-1 in the 44th minute.
Heading into the second half, the Spartans were hoping to carry over the momentum gained at the end of the first half. Dordt, however, took advantage in the 69th minute as Josh Brinkerhoff scored what turned out to be the game winner, giving the Defenders a 2-1 lead.
Dordt went on to add another goal in the 78th minute off the foot of Derick Sackey and four minutes later scored again, with Josh Brinkerhoff adding his second of the game, to make it a final 4-1.
Missouri Baptist was outshot in the game 14-7, with Brunk making three saves. Reed Holler led the team with two shots offensively.
The Spartans fall to 1-5 on the year, but will look to the home crowd for another win when the team hosts Central Methodist University on September 12th. Kick off will start at 3:00 p.m.
