ST. LOUIS- An overtime goal by Hannibal-LaGrange in the 98th minute dropped the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team today, 3-2. The Spartans fell to 6-4-2 with the loss and 2-3-1 in AMC play.
Joe Wonsewith and Alen Palislamovic blasted goals for MBU in a back-and-forth battle against the Trojans on a sloppy field.
Corbin Rodriguez made four saves through nearly 99 minutes of play.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 score after the first 45 minutes of play. The Trojans had five shots in the first half, two of which were on goal. Rodriguez made a phenomenal save to end the half, as a HLG player blasted a shot from 25 yards out. Rodriguez was out of the net by nearly 10 yards and deflected the would-be goal out of play as the buzzer sounded. The Spartans had three shots and one that was on goal.
The second half featured plenty of offense. Hannibal-LaGrange took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute.
Ten minutes later, Joe Wonsewith tied the game up 1-1 when his 13th goal of the season found the back of the net.
The Trojans took a 2-1 lead four minutes later, when Manuel Saez drilled a goal at the 83 minute mark.
Missouri Baptist would not go away though, as Palislamovic smoked his fourth goal of the season with just five minutes left in the contest. Wonsewith recorded his sixth assist of the season and his seventh multi-point game of the year.
Both teams recorded eight shots in the half and the game would head into overtime.
Hannibal-LaGrange took control of the overtime period, outshooting the Spartans 4-1 in the extra frame. With just over one minute left in the first overtime period, the Trojans ended the game on Joao Junqueira's second goal of the game.
Missouri Baptist will look to get back into the win column when they travel to Benedictine-Springfield on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
