ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's tennis had an up and down weekend. The team won its first game of the weekend against Bethel University, 6-3, but dropped its next to Martin Methodist, 9-0.
Missouri Baptist played a great match against Bethel (Tenn.) to begin the weekend. The Spartan No. 2 doubles duo of Haley Grueber and Hannah Wadlow won its match and gave the team its first point of the day.
Missouri Baptist entered singles play up 2-1 after a win by forfeit at No. 3 doubles and continued to play well. After losses at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the team began to get on a roll. Nicole Zevlever won her match in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 4, Hailey Grueber won in a tiebreak set in the most thrilling match of the day. Her 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 victory guaranteed MBU the match with a win by default at No. 6.
Saturday's match, however, was not nearly as successful. Martin Methodist, currently receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25, not only did not relinquish a team point, but did not give-up a set on the day.
The Spartans will head on the road on Friday to play Stephens College before heading back home for a match against Judson University on Saturday.
