ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's tennis posted its first win of the season on Friday in a 7-2 victory at Lindenwood University-Belleville.
Missouri Baptist (1-1) started the match down 0-1 with a loss at No. 1 doubles, but quickly rebounded with a win at No. 2 and a forfeit by LU-Belleville at No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, Lindenwood-Belleville's Lindsey Waters and Laura Knysak teamed to defeat MBU's Elise Beckenmeier and Hannah Wadlow in a 9-8 nail-biter.
Lindenwood entered the contest with just four players which put the Lynx at a serious disadvantage. After the duo of Nicole Zevlever and Haley Grueber defeated LU-Belleville's No. 2 team of Lizzie Cox and Brooke Brandley, the Spartans took a 2-1 lead with a win by default at No. 3.
Missouri Baptist lost just one singles match on the day en-route to the win. Perhaps the most intriguing contest took place at No. 2 singles when Hannah Wadlow outlasted the Lynx's Knysak 6-3, 1-6, 10-8.
MBU picked-up its first victory of the season and will have a chance to make it two in a row on Saturday against Baker University. At present time, the game has been delayed due to inclement weather.
