ST. LOUIS- The Missouri Baptist women's tennis squad fell to short-handed Lindenwood-Belleville on Wednesday. The Lynx defeated the Spartans 5-4, with three of the MBU wins coming from defaults.
Freshman Shelby Mund had the lone win for the Spartans, and gained the victory out of the number four spot. She defeated Brooke Brandley in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
MBU No. 1 Hannah Wadlow narrowly fell to the Lynx No. 1 Lindsey Waters in a tiebreaker set. Wadlow fell 6-4 in the first set, but sent the match into a tiebreaker with a 6-3 win in set two. Waters squeaked out the win with a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker set.
Head Coach Marty Tanner was pleased with Wadlow's effort throughout her match. "Hannah displayed grit, determination, consistency, and intelligence to take her opponent to a third set super tie-breaker. During the deciding court match, one of the points that I consciously counted rallied 53 hits! I felt on a roller coaster of pride and disappointment during the match," said Tanner.
The Spartans are scheduled to take on Concordia University on Saturday, April 20, at 9 AM. It will be the final home match of the 2013 season.
