ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist's recorded a big three-goal first quarter on Friday against Missouri State in a 8-4 win at home.
Missouri Baptist got on the board first in the first quarter. Spartan leading scorer Ian Brosch netted his 18thgoal of the season on a shot from about four feet out to put his team in front 1-0.
MBU continued to add to its lead as the first quarter wound down. At the 3:26 mark, freshman Aaron McClintock recorded his 14th goal of the season to put his team up 2-0. This game, however, was the Ian Brosch show. The Spartan junior recorded four of the team's five goals in the first half to put the home team up 5-1 heading into the break.
As the second half got underway, the momentum shifted in Missouri State's favor. Cameron Bostwick posted his second of the day nearly four minutes into the half for Missouri State and made it a 6-2 game. The Bears posted one more in the third quarter, cutting the Spartan lead in half making it a 6-3 MBU lead heading into the final quarter of play.
MBU's Alex Short made it a four-goal game once again at 8:19 of the fourth quarter as both teams posted just one score in the final frame.
For Missouri Baptist, Brosch led the way along with freshman keeper James Rose. Rose turned away a barrage of Missouri State shots in the final half and kept his team on top. Brosch scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season and helped to continue the winning trend for MBU. Brian Bouas also added two in the match.
The Spartans will return to action on Saturday night as the teams will celebrate its seniors. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
