RECER LIFTS SPARTANS OVER SCOTS

ST. LOUIS – After over 85 minutes of play, Anna Recer proved to be the difference on Wednesday over Lyon College. The senior from St. Charles scored to break a scoreless tie in the 85th minute to give Missouri Baptist its first conference win of the season, 1-0.

Missouri Baptist (3-3-1, 1-0 AMC) put together an outstanding defensive effort throughout, allowing just one shot on goal and three shots on the day in the win.

After a slow first half, Spartan Head Coach Deno Merrick clearly motivated his team to produce on offense. MBU totaled 17 shots in the second half and applied consistent pressure.

Just as the game looked to be headed to overtime, with 4:24 remaining on the clock, Recer fired the game winner into the net on the Lauren Clinton assist. This was the first win in the last three matches for Missouri Baptist and the first American Midwest Conference victory for the team.

Sam Schulze stopped the lone shot that she faced on the day. For Schulze, that is her second shutout on the year.

The Spartans will head out on the road on Saturday to face Williams Baptist College. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
