ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist men's lacrosse squad started the 2014 season on the right foot, as the Spartans defeated Missouri, 10-9. Seven different players scored for the Spartans in the win.

Sophomore Griffin Trotter blasted four goals in the victory to lead MBU. Alex Short scored one goal and had two assists. Aaron McClintock had a goal and an assist. Dan Mollet, Sam Youngblood, and Mike Howle each added a goal for the Spartans.

Ben Bowler had 11 saves for Missouri Baptist.

The final seconds of the game were extremely intense, as Bowler had a phenomenal save in waning seconds. Phil Forsman protected the lead on a last second shot by the Tigers. With the net wide open, Forman stuck his stick out to block the shot, preserving the win for the Spartans.

Missouri jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, but MBU worked its way back into the contest, and trailed 6-5 at halftime.

The Tigers held a 9-8 lead after three quarters, setting up a thrilling fourth quarter.

Howle tied the game at 9-9 with a goal midway through the fourth quarter, and Sam Youngblood netted the game-winner for the Spartans.
