The Missouri Baptist Women's tennis team had an up and down weekend, but managed to pick up their first win (1-5) on Friday against Fontbonne University.

            The Spartans jumped out to an early lead after taking #1 and #2 doubles while only giving up 1 game. Kathryn Randolph and Shelby Mund took care of business 8-1, while Haley Grueber and Nicole Savant claimed their first doubles win of the year 8-0. After a default at #3 doubles, the Spartans were up 3-0 heading into singles play. 

Despite sitting two of their top players, the Spartans won 5 out of the 6 singles matches. Mund, who was in the #1 spot, won 7-5, 6-1, while Senior Nicole Zevlever won at number #3 6-3, 6-1. Since the match was already decided, Lindsey Kuehnel only played a pro set, and won it easily, 8-0.

Sheena Payton lost a very close match at #2, which is the only win Fontbonne would muster, as MBU took the match with a final score of 8-1.

On Saturday, the Spartans took on Ashford University and struggled to find their same rhythm.

The Spartans were once again competitive in doubles, but went winless and entered singles play down 3-0. A very talented and experienced Ashford team squelched any ideas that the Spartans had of a comeback, and handed MBU losses at all 6 singles spots.

Freshman Nicole Savant (who has already notched a couple impressive wins this season) played a very close match, but eventually fell 7-5, 7-5.
