ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist Spartans men's lacrosse team defeated St. Ambrose in the annual "Senior Day," 17-2. The victory pushed the Spartans to 9-6 in the regular season finale.
Dan Mollet scored four goals to lead the Spartans. Mike Howle scored three goals, while Aaron McClintock netted two goals.
Ben Bowler played the first 30 minutes. He made five saves and gave up two goals. James Stillson played the final 30 minutes and made six saves.
In the first quarter, the Spartans (9-6) outscored the Fighting Bees (7-7) 6-2. Mike Howle got the Spartans on board with a goal with 13:00 left in the quarter.
Ben Eder extended the MBU lead to 2-0 with a goal with 11:55 left.
St. Ambrose cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal, but PJ Brueggemann erased any chance at a tie ball game when he blasted a goal with 8:20 left in the quarter.
Chase Hamernick scored with six minutes left in the quarter and Dan Mollet followed with a goal ten seconds later to extend the MBU lead to 5-1.
After the Fighting Bees scored to make it 5-2, Mollet scored with 1:43 left in the quarter to put MBU on top, 6-2.
In the 2nd quarter, Howle fired his second and third goals of the game to put MBU on top 8-2.
Hamernick scored the last goal of the half, when he extended the MBU lead to 9-2.
In the third quarter, head coach Andy Joly put freshman goalie James Stillson into the contest.
Griffin Trotter fired his first goal of the game to get the scoring started in the half.
Aaron McClintock scored with 11:38 left in the quarter to put the Spartans up 11-2.
Tim "The Founder" Bensing ripped a worm-burner goal with 7:58 left in the third to extend the Missouri Baptist lead to 12-2.
McClintock blasted his second goal of the quarter with 4:01 left to put the Spartans up 13-2.
Sam Youngblood pushed the score to 14-2 with a twine-tickler with 1:01 left in the third quarter.
Mollet scored his third goal of the game with just 4.6 seconds left in the quarter to put MBU on top 15-2.
Missouri Baptist led 15-2 with just 15 minutes left in the contest.
Chase Hamernick gave Missouri Baptist a 16-2 lead with 3:43 left in the game on his third goal of the contest.
Mollet scored the last goal of the contest with just 22.6 seconds left in the game, which gave MBU a 17-2 lead.
