FRIEDLY ROPES FIVE HITS IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OVER NCAA DIVISION III BLACKBURN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score] The strong play of the Missouri Baptist softball continued yesterday, as the Spartans soundly defeated NCAA Division III Blackburn College, 10-2 and 9-1. The Spartans have now won nine of the last ten games and four straight.

Missouri Baptist (22-13) did not allow the late game site change to play a factor into the hitting. Due to poor field conditions, the games were moved to Carlinville, Ill. The Spartans roped 23 hits over ten innings, as both contests were finished in just five innings.

In game one, freshman pitcher Andrea Chessor was stellar once again. She allowed just two runs, none earned, on three hits. The Evansville, Ind. native struck out seven, and did not allow a free pass en route to earning her 12th victory of the season.

Every Spartan that played in the game reached base. Mariah Randazzo led MBU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, and home run. Mackenzie Friedly went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a double. Brittany Edelen went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Blackburn jumped on the board in the top of the 1st with two runs, aided by four MBU errors.

The Spartans stormed back with two runs of their own. Mackenzie Friedly singled and would jog home when Mariah Randazzo blasted a two-run bomb, tying the game at 2-2.

Missouri Baptist added another run on another Friedly-Randazzo duo. Friedly doubled with two outs and Randazzo followed with an RBI single, giving the Spartans a 3-2 lead after three innings.

Three more runs in the bottom of the 4th extended the MBU lead to 6-2. Chessor, Kelsey Snider and Sierra Thompson paced sparked the Spartans with three consecutive hits in the inning.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Spartans activated the mercy rule, as they scored four runs on three hits. Amanda Williams and Payton Anderson roped back-to-back doubles to open up the inning and back-to-back walks ended the contest.

Jena Trombley picked up victory number ten in game two, as she dominated from the first pitch. The junior gave up just one unearned run on one hit. She struck out five and walked zero.

Mackenzie Friedly led MBU, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI, and two doubles. Corey Pitchford went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a double. Brittany Edelen scored twice in the contest and added a stolen base, an RBI, and a hit.

The Spartans waited until the Battlin' Beavers scored a run in the top of the 3rd to make its run. MBU scored two runs on one hit, but walked twice and were helped by a Blackburn error.

Missouri Baptist exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Katie Alexander led off the inning with a double and moved to third on Brittany Edelen's single. After Edelen stole second to set up second and third, Friedly roped a double to plate both runners. Randazzo laced the Spartans third double of the inning, which allowed Friedly to score. Amanda Williams then welcomed the new Blackburn pitcher into the game by poking a single to score Randazzo. Darrian Chrzanoski kept the hit parade going by singling and moving Williams to second. With two outs and runners on second and third, Chelsea Crain cracked an RBI single, which scored Williams. Corey Pitchford ended the contest with a walk-off double, plating Crain and Chrzanoski. The final tally was 9-1.

The Spartans take on Columbia College in a huge AMC doubleheader today at 2 pm. Missouri Baptist stands in third place in the conference standings with a 10-2 record, while the Cougars holds the top spot with a 9-1 AMC record.
