ST. LOUIS - After a tightly-contested match, the Missouri Baptist women's tennis team fell short of a victory, falling 5-4 against the University of Illinois-Springfield.
The Prairie Stars added new talent since last semester these two teams met. However, Head coach Marty Tanner remained pleased of her team's efforts."I was proud of their determination and concentration," Tanner said.
The Spartans exhibited great depth in both singles and doubles. Haley Grueber and Nicole Zevlever started off with an 8-5 win at #3 doubles. Nicole Savant continued the Spartans' run at #4 singles after dominating her opponent 6-0, 6-2.
Grueber and Zevlever picked up where they left off from doubles as both won at #5 and #6 singles respectively. Grueber remains undefeated in both singles and doubles this season.
The Spartans will travel to King's Point Racket Club in Belleville, Il. to take on McKendree. Play starts at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
