ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist men's lacrosse team defeated Lindenwood University – Belleville in an 8-6 Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference (GRLC) semifinal match-up on Saturday morning, and for the fifth time in MBU history, the Spartans will head to the GRLC Championship match.
Chase Hamernick (fed by Dan Mollet) notched the first goal of the game and the Spartans (10-7) followed suit as they continued the lead to win the GRLC semifinal. With another goal in the first quarter and a goal by Lindenwood – Belleville, MBU was up 2-1.
The Missouri Baptist offense continued to attack the Lynx net and came up with four more goals in the second quarter only to be answered by LUB's one goal for a 6-2 half time score.
Mollet came back with the first goal of the half for the Spartans, but the Lynx began to fight back in the third quarter. Lindenwood-Belleville notched two more goals in the quarter to close the gap to three.
MBU found net again with Hamernick at the helm. LUB answered the Spartans goal with three goals, but Missouri Baptist was not done yet. MBU held the Lynx at six to take the win and advance the the GRLC Championship match.
Mollet, Tim Borroff, and Hamernick posted two goals apiece. Lorisio Mehmeti and Aaron McClintock closed in on the Lynx goal with one for each.
Senior goalie Ben Bowler held for 10 saves in the game.
The Spartans will take on the winner of Missouri Valley and Robert Morris University on May 3, at 12:30 p.m. in the GRLC Championship match.
