ST. LOUIS -- Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer is set to face off against Lyon College Saturday afternoon in the AMC Game of the Week. For more on the big conference showdown, read the following story contributed by AMC SID Tim Shay:
ST. LOUIS – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has expanded its Game of the Week Program, and as a result, the AMC is able to feature more games, with more teams as a part of their primary regular season featured broadcast coverage. This week's women's soccer game of the week features teams separated by five points in the standings, with one team trying to earn a home match in the AMC tournament, and the other battling to stay in the postseason picture.
The Missouri Baptist University Spartans (9-5, 7-2 AMC) hold a four-point lead over Lindenwood University-Belleville for fourth, and they head south to take on the Lyon College Scots (5-7-1, 5-3-1) on Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m. The Scots are currently one point out of fourth place in the standings – the final spot with a home match in the AMC Tournament – with four matches left in their season.
WHO
Missouri Baptist Spartans: The Spartans have won four of their last five matches, including a 5-2 bounce back win at Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday after Missouri Baptist fell to Park University on Tuesday afternoon. In those five matches, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 13-5, and they have a pair of shutouts. The match is the last away match for Missouri Baptist, as the Spartans will welcome Lindenwood University-Belleville and Central Baptist College to St. Louis in the season's final week.
Lyon Scots: The Scots have battled valiantly through an unusual second half of the season. Since their match against Park on September 17th, the Scots have not fielded a full starting 11 a single time, yet in those seven matches, they have a 4-2-1 record. Lyon has also scored 24 of their 30 goals on the season during that stretch. Points are at a premium for the Scots, however, and they must take advantage of their opportunities with a season finale against NAIA #19 Columbia College looming.
WHAT
The all-time series dates back to 2007 and it is split right down the middle. Each team has won three times, and there has been one tie – a scoreless draw last year. The Scots won the postseason tilt between the two sides in 2015, taking a 2-0 win in the AMC Championship quarterfinals.

WHY
If things fall correctly, the Spartans can clinch both a postseason berth and a home match in the AMC Championship Quarterfinal with a victory. Meanwhile, a Lyon win, coupled with a loss or tie from Lindenwood-Belleville would vault the Scots into the top four in the AMC.
