ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] – The Missouri Baptist men's lacrosse team made history in the 7-5 win over Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday.
The Eagles struck first blood for an early lead. The Spartans answered with a goal of their own to tie things up in the first quarter.
As the time began to count down in the second quarter, Robert Morris advanced its lead once again. MBU, however, hit its stride and found the back of the net three time to take the lead for the first time in the game.
Missouri Baptist advanced its lead in the third quarter for a 7-5 lead.
The teams held each other at a stale mate in the fourth quarter as both goalies recorded three saves in the quarter.
Aaron McClintock led the offense with two goals on the night. Tim Borroff, Austin Dahl, Devin Mayer, Andy Coulter and Chase Hamernick each recorded on goal apiece in the competition.
Robert Ates held strong in goals for 60 minutes and posted 16 saves off of 21 shots.
The Spartans not only made history playing at Robert Morris for the first time in program history, but also clinched a bid to the NAIA National Invitational for the first time.
Because MBU went undefeated in the NAIA Independents Conference the team will travel to Greenville, S.C. to compete in the first ever NAIA Invitational May 4-7.
Missouri Baptist will remain in Chicago, Ill. to face Aquinas College (Mich.) at a neutral site on Saturday, April 16.
