ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's tennis continued their conference play on Saturday by hosting the Baker University Wildcats. Despite a strong comeback attempt in singles, the Spartans fell in a 4-5 decision.

Missouri Baptist (3-9, 2-2 AMC) started the day slow, dropping all three doubles matches.

However, the Spartans' depth in singles was on full display, picking up wins at No.'s 3, 4, 5, and 6. In a day of comebacks, three Spartans dropped their first sets before coming back to win in three sets.

At No.3 singles, freshman Emily Brown picked up her fourth win of the season, outlasting her opponent 5-7 6-4 6-4.

Brazilian native Rafaela Divide was shutout in her first set, but stormed back to win 7-6 (3) 6-4. The Spartans' No.4 singles player has won four matches in a row.

Continuing her high level of play, freshman Lindsey Burgess won her team-high sixth match of the season. She dropped her first set 1-6 before rallying to win the second and third sets 6-4, 10-1.

Redshirt freshman Cheyenne Anderson picked up her first win of the season when her opponent retired with an injury early in the second set.  

Head Coach Cole Stevenson commented on the progress the team has made so far. "5-4 is a tough loss to swallow, but we were right there and just needed a few big points here and there to turn it around," Stevenson said. "Some great comebacks today by Em, Linds and Rafa too. First few matches this year, we couldn't win a third set for anything, so to win three in one day was awesome."

Missouri Baptist returns to action next Saturday at Stephens College.
