SPARTAN TENNIS WOMEN SEE FIRST ACTION OF FALL

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist Women's Tennis got some game action under its belt on Thursday as the team took to the court against Lindenwood (Mo.). The Spartans were held to just one team point on the night in a rain-shortened match as the Lions came out on top, 5-1.

Highly-touted recruit Thais Castiglioni saw her first action as a Spartan on Thursday after sitting the 2016 season as a redshirt. The wait was worth it for Head Coach Cole Stevenson, as his new No. 1 combined with Krista Tyson to take down the Lindenwood No. 1 doubles team of Tereza Melicharkova and Clara Piccamiglio, 8-5. Later, her No. 1 doubles match was halted due to rain as she led 6-4 and 3-2 in the second set.

Krista Tyson also led in No. 2 doubles before the weather played tricks with the match. Last season's No. 1 powered to a 6-2 win in the first set over Haya Hamed before the match was called.

The Spartans have two more tune-ups before the end of the fall season, as the team will play cross-town rival Maryville (Mo.) on Saturday, September 24.
