ST. LOUIS – [BETHEL BOX] [GEORGETOWN BOX] Missouri Baptist Women's Tennis looked good in its first match of the season, but stumbled against Georgetown (Ky.) the following day. After handing Bethel (Tenn.) a 9-0 loss, the Spartans took their first loss of the season against the Georgetown Tigers 7-2.
Missouri Baptist recorded its first shutout of the year on Friday against Bethel as Thais Castiglioni saw her first NAIA action of her career. The 5' senior from Madrid, Spain put together two wins, one at doubles with Krista Tyson, and next at singles 6-4, 6-3.
None of the Spartans dropped a set on Friday, but things changed on Saturday against Georgetown, a team that is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25.
The Spartans won at No. 1 doubles and singles as Castiglioni completed her week undefeated, but those were the lone victories in the match. Ashley Bonine made it close against Amanda Moore at No. 3 singles, but dropped her tiebreak set 12-10.
Missouri Baptist will get back to action on Tuesday, March 7 when they travel to Fontbonne for a clash against the cross-town, NCAA Division III Griffins. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
