ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] No. 3 Missouri Baptist Men's Lacrosse defeated No. 6 the University of the Cumberlands 15-7 on Thursday night in Williamsburg, Ky.
The Spartans got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Devin Mayer and Andy Coulter in the first quarter.
The Patriots responded with three in a row but that's when MBU captain Austin Dahl took over. The junior tied the game at three and after another marker from Mayer, the Spartans would not look back. Dahl added two more before the half to go along with one from Sean Hess and Missouri Baptist led 7-4 at the break.
The second half would be all MBU. The Cumberlands briefly cut the Spartan lead to two at 8-6 but the navy and white outscored the Patriots 7-1 in the final 20 minutes to run away with it.
Austin Dahl posted one goal in the third quarter and three more in the fourth for a game-total of seven. He's up to a team-leading nine goals on the season. Dan Mollet notched his fifth of the season while Andy Coulter added his sixth and Josh Zion registered his first. Ben Eder snagged his fifth goal of the season as well.
Robert Ates was solid in goal with 12 saves to earn the win.
Missouri Baptist improves to 3-0 with the victory. Next on the schedule is a date with No. 5, Siena Heights, on Saturday afternoon. Start time for that match is 11 am CST.
