ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist Women's Tennis took control against St. Louis College of Pharmacy (Mo.) on Friday. The team lost just one match on the day in an 8-1 decision.
Missouri Baptist (5-5, 1-1 AMC/HAAC) evened both its season and conference record with Friday afternoon's win as the Spartans head toward the final four matches of the season.
Missouri Baptist played without an injured Krista Tyson, but came out on top without one of its strongest players. Ashley Bonine took Tyson's role at No. 1 doubles along side Thais Castiglioni and filled-in to perfection. The dup cruised to an 8-1 win.
Emily Brown and Lindsey Burgess pitched the shutout over Kara Wesolowski and Jenna Smith 8-0 as Rafaela Davide and Cheyenne Anderson also grabbed an 8-2 win at No. 3.
In singles, the Spartans won at the top three spots in straight sets. Castiglioni, Bonine and Brown all cruised to wins while Cheyenne Anderson grabbed a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.
At No. 6, Lindsey Burgess posted the most dominant win of the day as she shut-out Amber Laurent 6-0, 6-0.
The Spartans will head for its final road test of the regular season on Wednesday when they face former American Midwest Conference member, University of Illinois-Springfield. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Springfield, Ill.
