SPARTANS FALL TO KEISER IN NATIONAL QUARTERFINAL

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Lacrosse fell 13-11 to Keiser University (Fla.) in the NAIA National Quarterfinal on Wednesday night in Greenville, S.C. The Spartans trimmed a five-goal fourth quarter deficit to one before a Keiser goal in the final seconds sealed the deal.

MBU drew first blood when Andy Coulter scored three minutes into the opening frame. The Seahawks then responded with six in a row to take a commanding lead.

The Spartans would chip away at the deficit, led by senior Dan Mollet and junior Austin Dahl. Mollet netted three second quarter goals while Dahl registered twice to cut the Keiser lead to 8-5 after two quarters.

The third quarter was tight checking but Mollet's fourth goal and Dahl's third narrowed the lead to 9-7. Keiser scored three in a row in the final frame to push the lead to 12-7. However, Head Coach Andy Joly's squad knows a thing or two about being resilient and they proved it in the final 10 minutes.

Two goals from Devin Mayer and one each from Dahl and Jon Chaffee erased the five goal deficit and brought the Spartans to within one with two minutes to go in regulation. MBU won the ensuing faceoff but the Seahawks forced a turnover and played keep away for the final 60 seconds. They added one more goal with three seconds left to put salt in the wound. The final score read 13-11.

Dan Mollet finished the night with four goals and three assists to pace the MBU attack. The senior ends his career with exactly 100 goals, ranking him third all-time in MBU school history.

Austin Dahl posted three goals to bring his season total to 36. The junior added an assist and eight groundballs as well. Dahl also won 13 of 19 faceoffs to spearhead the fourth quarter comeback.

Missouri Baptist finishes the 2017 season with a record of 8-5. Keiser will advance to play the No. 1 seed Missouri Valley in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
