MEN’S GOLF CAPTURES TEAM/INDIVIDUAL TITLES IN SPRINGFIELD

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri Baptist Men's Golf kicked off its fall campaign in the best possible way on Tuesday afternoon with a victory at the Evangel Fall Invite. The Spartans topped five other schools to claim the team title while junior transfer Drew Wielgus earned individual honors in the 38-man field. The 18-hole event was contested on the par-70 Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

In his first appearance as a Spartan, Wielgus posted three-under 67 to edge Ottawa University's (Kan.) Clete Carlson and Evangel's Jake Brown at one-under. The transfer from Lewis and Clark CC tied the second lowest round in MBU Men's Golf history.

Missouri Baptist, as a team, put in all-around dominating performance. Including Wielgus in the top spot, three Spartans finished in the Top 10 individually. Fernando Del Campo and Paolo Urso tied for sixth at +2, 72. Triston Buckley was one further back at +3.

With junior Jack Moran carding a 75, all five counting scores for MBU were inside the top 13. As a result, the Spartans finished six shots ahead of Evangel on the team leaderboard. The team victory was the 14th under Head Coach Justin Hoagland since 2008.

The Spartans will now have a week off before heading to the NAIA Fall Preview at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. on September 28 and 29.
