SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri Baptist Men's Golf kicked off its fall campaign in the best possible way on Tuesday afternoon with a victory at the Evangel Fall Invite. The Spartans topped five other schools to claim the team title while junior transfer
Drew Wielgus earned individual honors in the 38-man field. The 18-hole event was contested on the par-70 Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.
In his first appearance as a Spartan, Wielgus posted three-under 67 to edge Ottawa University's (Kan.) Clete Carlson and Evangel's Jake Brown at one-under. The transfer from Lewis and Clark CC tied the second lowest round in MBU Men's Golf history.
Missouri Baptist, as a team, put in all-around dominating performance. Including Wielgus in the top spot, three Spartans finished in the Top 10 individually.
Fernando Del Campo and
Paolo Urso tied for sixth at +2, 72.
Triston Buckley was one further back at +3.
With junior
Jack Moran carding a 75, all five counting scores for MBU were inside the top 13. As a result, the Spartans finished six shots ahead of Evangel on the team leaderboard. The team victory was the 14
th under Head Coach
Justin Hoagland since 2008.
The Spartans will now have a week off before heading to the NAIA Fall Preview at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. on September 28 and 29.
