Box Score BELLEVILLE, Ill. – MBU Women's Tennis (1-3) snapped a three-match skid to defeat John Brown University (Ark.) (0-10) 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The day began with a sweep of two doubles matches for the Spartans. At No. 1,
Faith Griese and
Maria Brandt battled to a 6-4 win while
Hannah Chaney and
Geena Novelly had an easier time with a 6-0 victory at No. 2. Neither MBU nor JBU had a No. 3 doubles pairing.
The Spartans needed to win at least two of the five doubles match and they did one better. Brandt (6-1, 6-3) at No. 3 and Novelly (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 took care of business. At No. 1,
Faith Griese earned her first career singles victory in a tiebreak set over JBU's Sydney Smith.
