GOODYEAR HIRED TO LEAD MBU TENNIS PROGRAM

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics Dr. Thomas Smith officially announced Scott Goodyear as the head men's & women's tennis coach at MBU this week.

"We are pleased to welcome Scott to our staff to lead the men's & women's tennis programs," Smith said. "Scott has a strong Christian vision and comes to MBU as a seasoned coach and instructor. His work with Athletes in Action strengthens our efforts to reach the student-athletes with the Gospel message."

Goodyear, who works as a tennis teaching professional at Vetta Racquet Sports West, replaces MBU tennis alum Krista Tyson. At Vetta, Goodyear leads tennis clinics and gives private lessons at all levels of the sport – youth, high school and adults.

Prior to his time at Vetta, Goodyear served as head men's & women's tennis coach at Lindenwood University-Belleville for a short stint prior to the school closing its doors in 2020. In the short time at LU-B, Goodyear helped lead the nationally-ranked men's team to a No. 3 seed in the Unaffiliated Group Tournament (AMC/HEART) with two athletes receiving all-conference recognition.

He has spent a good part of the last two decades working with college student-athletes in a Christ-centered environment through the international sports ministry, Athletes in Action. During his time with Athletes in Action, he has walked alongside hundreds of athletes to help them find purpose, hope, and growth in all dimensions of life. While on the AIA staff, Goodyear spent four seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater University of Missouri-St. Louis (NCAA DII), one at Missouri Baptist, and 10+ years in a non-coaching capacity at Lindenwood University-St. Charles.

"It's very exciting to have the opportunity to work at a faith-based institution with the ability to be myself and share my own faith experiences with the student-athletes," Goodyear said. "One thing that has prepared me for this new journey is my time with Athletes in Action and interacting with students from different countries, different cultures, and different walks of life. It seems like the perfect fit."

Athletically, Goodyear played at the prep level at nearby Parkway West High School. As a senior, he finished fifth overall in doubles at the MSHSAA State Championship. After graduating from PWHS, Goodyear went on to play four seasons at UMSL and earned All-Conference First Team in his last two season – 1999 and 2000.

Scott and his wife, Erica, reside in St. Peters, Mo., with their three boys: Kaden, Jevan, and Brylan.
