ST. LOUIS – Following her performance at the 2022 Principia College Relays, Missouri Baptist senior
Emily Bayer was named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday. This represents Bayer's fourth career AMC Track Athlete of the Week honor and first for the 2021-22 season.
To kick off the weekend, Bayer anchored the Spartans' first-place Distance Medley Relay with a time of 5:17.95 in the final leg. On Saturday afternoon, the Imperial, Mo. senior won the 1-mile run and was a part of another 1-2-3 finish like the week before with teammates
Mia Reed and
Isabel Rinkenberger. Bayer's time of 5:15.63, converted to 5:12.54 for the 300m NAIA qualifying standard, was fast enough to achieve the NAIA 'B' standard. Bayer has now qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in three out of her four indoor seasons.
As a winner at the conference level, Bayer is now eligible for the NAIA National Women's Track Athlete of the Week award, which will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
