MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Missouri Baptist Spartans Men's Golf team had a consistent approach throughout the three rounds of the NAIA Memphis Shootout tournament played at TPC Southwind. They followed up opening round scores of 296 and 300, with a 301 on Tuesday to claim 5
th place in a wide-open tournament with 14 other teams. The Spartans finished the 36 holes with a combined score of +45. The field was led by Lindsey Wilson College which blew away the rest of the competition with a +2 [281-284-289], winning by nine strokes.
Sophomore
Jannik Daeschner led the way for the Spartans by finishing the tournament at +8. His final round 72 (+1) was two shots off the lowest round played on Tuesday. Daeschner finished in a tie for 13
th place. Graduate student
Drew Wielgus was close behind in 18
th at 10-over. Playing some of his most consistent golf, senior
Jack Moran finished the three rounds at 225 or +12. He carded round scores of 74-76-75. Senior
Triston Buckley took 32
nd at +16. Senior
Alexander Engelhardt struggled mightily on a couple of holes during the last round Tuesday, shooting an 89. That dropped him 18 spots to finish in 66
th place at 32-over.
The Spartan men have one more tournament before putting the clubs away for the winter. They will participate in the Evangel University/Fairmount Challenge next Monday and Tuesday in Springfield, Mo.
