NIXA, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist Men's Golf team ended their 2022 fall season with a flourish on Tuesday, placing second at the Fremont Hills Challenge hosted by Evangel University. The two-day event took place beginning Monday morning at the par-71 Fremont Hills Country Club course in Nixa, Mo. MBU finished with a team score of 613 [313-300] which was eight strokes off the pace of American Midwest Conference colleague Central Baptist College who won the tournament at 605.
The Spartans had more than a few outstanding individual efforts, but likely none bigger than that of
Triston Buckley. The senior from Williamsburg, Va. finished in a tie for second in the tournament, the highest placement of his Spartan career. Buckley shot at six over 77 on day one but came back to fire a two under 69 on day two. His second-day score was the only round registered below par in either round among the 37 golfers entered. His second round actually began in precarious fashion as he double-bogeyed his first hole. Buckley was able to gather himself quickly though as he birdied the next hole, one of six he would score on the day. He wasn't done yet though as he eagled his fourth hole and get under par, where he would remain for the rest of the round.
Sophomore
Jannik Daeschner continued his strong play this fall by finishing at +10 and in fifth place. Freshman
Luke Gardner saw rare action this fall but fired an impressive 155 [79-76] to finish in ninth place. Freshman
Josemaria Gutierrez finished at +20 and in a tie for 15
th. The rest of the Spartans finished were bunched up at 19
th and 20
th place. Senior
Alexander Engelhardt was at 21-over while graduate student
Drew Wielgus and freshman
Collin Weinhaus both carded a +22.
The Fremont Hills Challenge was the final tournament for the fall season for the men's golf team. They will look to get back to action when the spring season rolls around in March 2023.
