ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist one-upped itself from last year's all-conference recognition as six Spartans earned All-AMC honors in 2022, the league announced Friday morning prior to the start of the AMC Women's Soccer Tournament. Paving the way for the Spartans were First Team selections Hanna Harrison, Jamie Theusch, Saige Stowers, and Jordyn Besserman, and Piper Brown and Gianna Gore, who were recognized as Honorable Mention All-AMC.
For the second straight year, lockdown defender Jamie Theusch was named First Team All-Conference. The St. Peters, Mo. junior continues to be one of Missouri Baptist's most valuable players. In addition to holding down the extremely important center back position, Theusch contributed six points with one goal and four assists. On Sept. 5, Theusch earned her first career AMC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Junior fullback Saige Stowers becomes a three-time All-Conference recipient, but finally broke through this year as a First Teamer. The St. Louis defender appeared in all 17 matches this season with 16 starts to her name.
Senior goalkeeper Hanna Harrison earns her first All-Conference award as a First Team selection. In 14 starts, Harrison recorded nine wins on the year with four shutouts. The House Springs, Mo. native also ranked second in the conference for save percentage (.787%) and goals against average of 1.23. In September, Harrison earned AMC Defensive Player of the Week, marking the fourth Player of the Week award in her career.
Joining Theusch, Stowers, and Harrison as a First Team selection was University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy transfer Jordyn Besserman. The junior midfielder picked up right where she left off at UHSP, tying Mara George for a team high in goals with seven apiece. In three collegiate seasons, Besserman has notched 24 career goals.
In her first season in Navy & White, freshman fullback Piper Brown appeared and started in all 17 regular-season matches and earned All-AMC Honorable Mention. Brown totaled two goals and two assists while earning AMC Defender of the Week in the opening week of play (8/29/22).
For the second year in a row, senior Gianna Gore earned All-Conference Honorable Mention and finished the regular season as one of MBU's top goal scorers. The Union, Mo. forward ranked second on the squad in goals (6) and third in points (15). Gore joined Jamie Theusch on Sept. 5 to sweep the AMC Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards.
Other off-the-field awards honored on Friday included Academic All-AMC student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Spartans placed 11 on the list including Arika Buxton, Emma Fischer, Neida Grimaldo, Hanna Harrison, Hailey Hickerson, Skyla Koch, Ashton Lindsley, Chloe Massoth, Brianna Merchant, Lindzey Morrison, and Lauren Poggemoeller.
