WOMEN’S TRACK SPLITS WEEKEND AT GORILLA CLASSIC AND TITAN OPEN

The track and field team could be found on either side of Missouri this weekend at two different meets. Three Spartans made their way to Pittsburg Kan. for the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State. The rest of the team could be found in Bloomington, Ill. for the Illinois Wesleyan Titan Open.

Alaina Scott kicked things off for the Spartans in the Pole Vault on Friday at the Gorilla Classic against opponents from top schools. She recorded a height of 3.13 meters and placed 15th. Isabel Rinkenberger and Mia Reed were the other two Spartan participants at the Gorilla Classic. Rinkenberger competed in the 800 meter run, going up against 73 other runners. With a time of 2:20.30, the sophomore set a new personal best while coming in 28th. Mia Reed competed in two events this go around, the 800 meter run as well as the mile. Reed clocked in a time of 2:35.34 in the 800 and placed 74th. In the mile she posted a time of 5:11.23 and was able to place 24th out of 72.

Saturday (Feb. 11) came the start of the Titan Open where the Spartans tied for 12th out of 16 teams. Grace Bostic, in the 60 meter hurdles, earned the highest finish out of the Spartans coming in fourth with a time of 9.72. Haley Hernandez placed fifth in the 5000 meter run, setting a new PR with a time of 20:43.32. The women's 4x400 meter relay team also placed fifth during the meet. Adrienne Rockette, Grace Bostic, Mattie Noyes, and Madison Sargent competed together, clocking in a time of 4:31.28.

Rockette also competed in the 800 meter run, coming in eighth place with a time of 2:31.33. Another eighth place finisher was Maegan Saleh. She competed in the long jump and had a jump of 4.96 meters. The last of the top ten finishers was Isabella Schreiber who took tenth in the weight throw with a distance of 10.36 meters.

There were plenty of other new personal bests during the meet as well. Mia Oellermann set a new PR in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.89. Madison Sargent who competed in the 400 meter dash earned a new PR with a time of 1:06.23. Lastly, Noyes, who also ran the 400 meter dash set a new personal best time of 1:07.38.

The indoor regular season is coming to an end with the AMC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships right around the corner. The team will be traveling to Elsah, Ill. on Feb. 18 to see if they can earn the conference title this year.
