Elsah, Ill.- Over the weekend (Feb. 18), the women's track and field team competed in the AMC Indoor Championships.
Mia Reed and the 4x400 relay team earned the Spartans only two gold medals during the meet. The team was able to post four silver medals to add to the teams overall score. The Spartans placed fourth with a 70 points just ahead of Williams Baptist who had 69.
Mia Reed was the lone individual to earn first place. In the 1000-meter run, the sophomore posted a time of 3:02.71, a new personal record. She was a split second ahead fellow Spartan,
Isabel Rinkenberger who was timed at 3:02.90 which was a new personal record. Both earned NAIA B standards and will be making their way to nationals.
The 4x400 relay team was made up of the two previously mentioned, along with Madison Sargent and
Mattie Noyes. The team clocked in an overall time of 4:19.61, just ahead of the team from Cottey.
The teams other silver medals came from
Adrienne Rockette,
Alaina Scott, and the distance medley relay team. Rockette competed in the 800m and secured second place with a time of 2:31.85, a new PR. Scott took on the pole vault and earned the silver with a jump of 3.40. Her jump in the pole vault was a new PR along with her time in the 60m hurdles preliminary round (9.83). Lastly, the distance medley relay clocked in a time of 13:42.51 to take the silver.
NAIA Indoor Nationals is around the corner, taking place on March 2 in in Brookings, S.D.
