MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – For the second time in three tournaments this spring, senior
Jack Moran finished in second place individually to lead his team to a Top-Four finish in a tournament. This time it was the Battle at Big Creek hosted by Williams Baptist University in Mountain Home, Arkansas on Monday and Tuesday.
Moran fired an opening round one-under (71) on the first day and a one-over on day two to finish at even-par 144. He finished tied for second among 68 golfers who took part in the tournament. Moran was four shots off the lead.
Freshman
Josemaria Gutierrez hit a 148(+4) to tie for twelfth. His second round -2(70) tied for the second-lowest score of any golfer for a round. Senior
Alexander Engelhardt finished in a tie for nineteenth place after shooting an identical 75 in each round to finish at +6. Sophomore
Jannik Daeschner finished in a tie for thirty-second and graduate student
Drew Wielgus was slotted at thirty-seventh.
It was another solid performance for the Spartan men as all but one of the members finished in the top half of the 68-man field.
As a team the Spartans came in a +20(596), which was 17 strokes behind tournament champion and fellow American Midwest Conference member Columbia College. William Woods University was second, 12 shots back, followed by Blue Mountain Christian University at +18.
The next scheduled action for the men's golf team will be April 17, when they host the MBU Invitational at Spencer T. Olin Golf Club in Alton, Ill.
