MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Missouri Baptist Spartans Women's Golf team made up ground on conference opponents on Tuesday to finish fourth at the 2023 American Midwest Conference Women's Golf Championships at the Big Creek Golf Club in Mountain Home, Ark.
The Spartans improved their overall team score by nine strokes from the first round on Monday to the concluding 18 holes on Tuesday. MoBap shot a 369 on the first day and sat in fifth place, one shot behind Williams Baptist University. But the Spartan women improved their score to 360 in the second round to move past WBU and sit easily in fourth place 22 shots ahead of the Eagles. Columbia College easily outdistanced the rest of the conference to finish the two-day event at 656 (+80), 38 shots ahead of second place Williams Woods University and 45 shots better than third place Cottey College. Following MBU and WBU were Lyon College and Central Baptist College.
Individually the Spartans were paced by graduate student
Carlie Van Patten. The native of Edwardsville, Ill. finished the two-day event at +32 (176) which tied her for 13
th place overall.
Sophomore
Lauren Ice improved by three strokes on the second day of the tournament, carding an 88 on Day Two. Her +35 (179) was good enough for 16
th place.
Sophia Welch was the biggest mover of any Spartan. After turning in a disappointing 97 in her first round, she rebounded to hit an 87 on the second day. The improvement allowed her to move up from 24
th place to finish in 18
th.
Freshman
Ryen Tindall shot an identical 95 in both rounds to finish in a tie for 22
nd place at +46 (190). Fellow freshman
Chelsea Young was 28
th with scores of 101 and 103 to finish in 28
th place at +60.
The AMC Women's Golf Championship is the concluding event of the 2022-23 MBU Women's Golf schedule.
