Duncan Leads Spartans at NAIA Great Lakes Challenge

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mia Duncan placed 16th of 180 participants for Missouri Baptist University cross country at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas University in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday. The women took 19th overall as a team while the men took 22nd.

In a competition loaded with ranked programs, Taylor University prevailed on the women's side with all seven runners finishing inside the top 25. Indiana Wesleyan won the men's 8k race while also claiming the individual victory in Eli Fullerton with a 24:12.60.

Duncan, a senior from Washington, Mo., completed the race in 18:15.60 to take 16th overall. She completed the first 1,600m in 5:37.30, the ninth fastest time on the course during that stretch, which helped her to set a new PR for the 5k event.

Julia Whorton finished next for MBU in 118th with a personal best of 19:51.20, followed by Camrin Watkins, Mercy Dement, and Lizzie Burgan in 145th, 148th, and 157th, respectively.

Grant Patten finished first on the men's side with a 26:24.00 in 139th place out of 200 runners. He was followed by Brandon Etheridge in 159th, Phillip Kackley in 171st, and Wyatt Claiborne in 172nd.

This was the final meet for the cross country programs before taking on the American Midwest Conference Championships on Friday, Nov. 8, in Hannibal, Mo.
