ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Baptist University women's track and field team found success this past weekend at the Wash U Distance Carnival (St. Louis) and the Joey Haines Invitational (Cape Girardeau, Mo.).
At the Wash U Distance Carnival, indoor track and field All American, Mia Reed, flew past the competition in the 3000 m steeplechase to take third place and set a new personal record (10:41.55). Shaving 14 seconds off her previous record, Reed hit an NAIA 'A' standard in the event on Thursday (March 28).
Sophomore Lillian Harris joined Reed at the Distance Carnival on Friday (March 29) where she participated in the 5000 m run. Facing tough competition, Harris landed at 189th place out of 209 (22:30.46).
Most of the women's track and field team competed at the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau on Saturday (March 30). Coming off her NAIA 'A' standard run, Reed excelled in the 400 m hurdle (1:06.77), finishing in fourth place. With this time, she hit a PR (prev. 1:07.03).
Freshman Angela Ward hit her stride in the 800 m, taking fifth place out of 28 opponents (2:24.67). Pole vaulter Alaina Scott landed at 6th place, hitting 3.59 m in the event.
In the 1500 M, Emily Farchmin took 6th place out of 27 (4:49.39), and Adrienne Rockette finished in 16th place (5:04.67).
Field athlete Emma Lawson finished eighth out of 28 in the javelin throw (35.35 m). In the same event, Hannah Duro took 11th place (30.58 m).
Lawson also showed a valiant effort in the discus throw, hitting 34.76 m and finishing at 17th out of 30.
Sophomore Mattie Noyes found herself in 13th place out of 28 in the 800 m, running it in 2:32.25.
Freshmen Hannah Hiers and Julianne Hansen performed pretty well in the 200 m, with Hansen finishing 30th out of 60 (26.87) and Hiers finishing 32nd (26.99).
Women's track and field competes again this Friday (April 5) at the SLU Billiken Invitational where they hope to find even more victories.
