DeRousse Earns First in PV, Spartans Shatter Personal Records

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — On Friday (April 12) and Saturday (April 13) the Missouri Baptist University men's track and field team divided and conquered at the UMC Mule Relays (Warrensburg, Mo.)  and the Greenville University Select Meet (Greenville, Ill.).

Graduate student Mayson DeRousse took first place in the pole vault, hitting 5.02 M and an NAIA 'A' standard for the second week in a row. 

In the 5000 M, Donovan Denslow placed fourth out of 56 competitors, running the event in 14:39.59. He also hit an NAIA 'B' standard. 

Freshman Grant Patten ran in the same event and placed 34th (15:38.93). Senior Charlie Mcallister hit a new personal record with a time of 16:30.49 (prev. 16:32.95). 

Josiah Heras and Ethan Bliss bested their records as well. Heras placed 29th out of 57 in the 800 M (1:59.82). With this time, he shaved about 43 seconds off his previous record. Bliss ran in the 1500 M where he finished 44th out of 59 (4:16.39). His previous record in this event was 4:20.30.

Brandin Dodd made his presence known in the 400H, placing 16th out of 31 (58.65). In the men's hammer throw, Jordan Walker-Wright also placed 16th amongst 30 opponents. He hit 48.22 M, breaking his previous record of 45.82 M. 

Some other members of the MBU men's track and field team competed at the Greenville University Select Meet on the Saturday following the UMC Mule Relays. 

Collin Hutson hit 42.87 M in the hammer throw, putting him in 8th place. With this number, he broke his previous record of 42.87 M. He broke another PR in the discus throw, hitting 35.18 M (prev. 35.94 M). 

Sophomore Warren Gann broke two PRs as well. He hit 34.45 M (prev. 33.85 M) in the discus throw, and he hit 37.98 M (prev. 35.94 M) in the hammer throw. 

Jordan Notz hit a PR of 34.10 M (prev. 31.52 M) in the hammer throw, and freshman Zachary Klug broke his previous record of 4:47.92 in the 1500 M. His new PR is  4:45.19. 

The Spartans will compete again this weekend (April 20) at the CSC Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo., where they hope to excel even further in the season.
