ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Missouri Baptist University's women's basketball team picked up its second win of the season Tuesday evening, defeating conference opponent William Woods University 61–51.
The Spartans improved to 2–5 overall and 2–2 in conference play behind a balanced offensive effort and strong fourth-quarter shooting. MBU went 6 of 7 from the field and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc in the final period to pull away.
Senior Paula Puzule led the Spartans with 12 points, adding two assists, two steals and three rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Puzule was perfect from the free-throw line (2-for-2) and scored eight of her points in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.
Missouri Baptist University shot 53.5% from the field (23 of 43) and 33.3% from three-point range (6 of 18). The Spartans also held a 39–27 advantage on the boards and scored 21 points off the bench.
Riley Jansen and Eva Parks each finished with 11 points. Parks was perfect from the floor, going 5-for-5, and added five rebounds, while Jansen pulled down six boards. Jenna Plymale added eight points, three assists and three steals.
MBU led 31–23 at halftime and pushed its advantage to as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter.
William Woods, which fell to 0–6 overall and 0–4 in conference play, was led by Jersee Wren's game-high 18 points.
Missouri Baptist University returns to action on the road Saturday, Dec. 6, traveling to Lamoni, Iowa, for a noon matchup against Graceland University.
