Pitching Earns MBU Wins Over Campbellsville, No. 9 William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – No. 16 Missouri Baptist University baseball picked up a pair of victories on Friday over Campbellsville University and No. 9 William Carey University. Eddie Uschold's squad moves to 4-3 overall behind a pair of home runs from Jayden Orozco and stellar outings on the mound from Landon Albers and Carter Sabol.

Campbellsville Recap
Breese, Ill., native Landon Albers took the ball in Friday's first game and shut Campbellsville down in the first four innings. He did not surrender a run until Yosuke Fujie hit a solo home run in the fifth. Zach Peters came on in relief in the top of the sixth, ending Albers' day with three hits, one earned, three walks, and three strikeouts over five innings.

Peters got the first two outs of the sixth before conceding a single and a walk. He stranded the runners by getting Tanner Park to pop out to the catcher Marcus Graham.

Down to their final six outs in the seven-inning game, Kai Gray led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, his second of the year. Blayne Yarger worked a walk, Cole Robinson singled, and Jayden Orozco continued to be white hot in 2025 with a three-run, go-ahead home run to left field to put the Spartans out in front 4-1.

Looking to close the game out in his second inning of work, Peters gave up a leadoff single ahead of Fujie's second home run of the game to pull the Tigers within one. Peters got the next batter to strike out, hit a batter, and got a flyout to push Campbellsville to the brink.

With two strikes on River Terry, Peters put a breaking pitch in the dirt and past a half-hearted swing. The pitch got away from the catcher, however, and a bad throw put the tying run on second base and the go-ahead run on first. Tate Wischnack stepped in and fell behind in the count on consecutive off-speed pitches and was caught looking on a fastball from Peters to end the game.

No. 9 William Carey Recap
Reigning American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week Carter Sabol was the starter in game two and worked a pair of strikeouts over his first two scoreless innings.

Lucas Lefebvre and Dominic Palma kicked things off with singles in the top of the third, Gray was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Jakob Kouneski drove in a run with a single to right. With the bases still loaded, Yarger and Robinson worked walks to extend the lead to 3-0, and a wild pitch brought home a fourth run. James Jett and Marcus Graham followed up with RBI singles to make it 6-0 and Palma registered his second hit of the frame to drive in two more.

William Carey responded with a lone run in the bottom of the third after a leadoff walk came around to score on a sacrifice fly. After the third, Sabol cruised through the fourth and fifth innings but hit a rough patch in the sixth.

A pair of infield singles with two outs brought Brady Logan to the plate. Sabol was up to the task and earned a strikeout to wrap up his day with 101 pitches, one earned, three hits, three walks, and eight strikeouts over six innings.

Skout Rallo was called on in the bottom of the seventh and surrendered four runs on one hit and one error before earning a strikeout of Tyler Ducksworth to end the game with a 12-5 final.
