KANSAS CITY – Missouri Baptist University women's tennis remained undefeated Saturday evening, securing a 5-2 victory over receiving votes Morningside University in Kansas City.
Women's Tennis
The Spartans improved to 4-0 on the season, controlling the match from start to finish. MBU swept the doubles point with wins from Nirva Patel/Yvonne Shannon, Polina Agapitova/Mariana Azevedo, and Jocelynn Carmody/Mia McIsaac.
In singles play, victories from Shannon, Agapitova, Carmody, and McIsaac sealed the 5-2 win.
"We came out big with the doubles, securing all three courts. Then made a statement by converting on multiple third sets," Assistant Coach Christian Hamilton said. "The ladies were united and so supportive of each other in the gritty team win."
Men's Tennis
The MBU men's tennis team also competed Saturday evening, falling 6-1 to No. 25 Morningside University. The loss dropped the Spartans to 2-2 on the season.
Despite the result, MBU claimed the doubles point with victories from Luca da Silva Ebenriter/Sebastian Junghanns and Strahinja Radanovic/Arkhip Tokmakov.
In singles, the Spartans struggled to find momentum, failing to secure a win. Da Silva Ebenriter, playing at the No. 1 spot, was tied at one set apiece before being forced to retire due to cramping.
Both teams return to the court next Friday against Quincy University.
