No. 7 MBU Men’s Volleyball Prevails in Five Sets at No. 5 Park

PARKVILLE, Mo. – No. 7 Missouri Baptist University men's volleyball took a five-set road victory over No. 5 Park University on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans won the first two sets, dropped the next two, and won set five 15-12 to improve to 8-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and to push their winning streak to nine consecutive games.

No. 5 Park Recap

Missouri Baptist coasted to a 25-10 set one win behind a .333 hitting percentage. Veljko Culibrk did damage at the net and helped hold Park to a -.259 percentage in the first frame with three out of his 10 blocks in the contest.

Marko Jovanovic took over in the second set, posting six kills after notching four in the first set. The two teams matched each other's points for the entire set until a Park service error, an ace from Jovanovic, and a kill from Michael Anderson ended the game 25-23.

The Pirates did not go quietly in a sweep, however, grinding out a 25-21 set three win and riding six Nicolas Tenius kills to a 26-24 win in set four.

In the fifth set, David Rudic found Kyle Radecki to tie the frame at three. A trio of attack errors from the home team and a service ace from Culibrk put MBU ahead 7-3 and forced both Park timeouts. Later in the set ahead 13-11, the Spartans got block assists from Jovanovic and Culibrk to reject the tying point off an attack from Veljko Stojic and finished off the five-set win after a Pirate service error.

Jovanovic was instrumental in the victory with 18 kills, two service aces, and a .314 attack percentage. Other notable stats were Culibrk's 10 blocks, Rudic's 38 assists, and Michael Olson's 12 kills.

Coach's Corner:

"It's always great to get a road win in the Heart, let alone against a team that's in the top five," said Head Men's Volleyball Coach Tom Young. "Proud of how the guys played today. We are looking forward to continuing to get better and better."
