No. 19 MBU Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Columbia to Open Series

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Blayne Yarger drove in four runs in game one to help No. 19 Missouri Baptist University baseball to a doubleheader split with Columbia College on Thursday night. The Spartans are now 16-6 overall and 11-3 in the American Midwest Conference.
 
Game One Recap
Sam Myers started on the mound in the first game and gave up lone runs in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. He ended his day in the seventh after six innings of work, eight strikeouts, and three earned runs on 95 pitches.
 
Blayne Yarger carried the offense with a two-RBI single in the second inning and a two-run home run in the fourth. James Jett got the team off to a 2-0 start in the top of the first with a two-run bomb, his eighth of the year.
 
Leading 8-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Eddie Uschold called in Zach Peters from the bullpen. The graduate student from Fort Worth, Texas, put runners on second and third with two outs but got a pop-out to second base to end the game.

Game Two Recap
Columbia jumped on MBU starting pitcher Landon Albers for three runs in the first and a Jaden James solo home run in the second. The Cougars added three more in the third.
 
In the top of the third, Tyson Ludwig led off the frame with a double to center and came around to score after a Kai Gray walk and an RBI fielder's choice from Yarger.
 
The CC pitching staff ended the scoring there, however, as Owen Clark went on to pick up his third win of the season on four innings, one earned, and four strikeouts. Hunter Hees ended the game with three scoreless and four strikeouts out of the Cougar bullpen.
 
Greg Ryun relieved Albers in the third and went four innings and allowed one earned with six punchouts and two walks.
