FULTON, MO. - Missouri Baptist University completed the week sweep with two wins over the Owls of William Woods University on Saturday. The Spartans got going from the first inning of game one, winning 5-2, but game two was a pitcher's duel that ended in MBU's favor 1-0.

Game One Recap
The Spartans swung it well throughout the game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and tacking on another pair of runs in the third inning.Â

The top of the Spartans lineup continued to go to work to start games as Makayla Johnson doubled, Brooklynn Fischer drove her home, and Allison Leigraf tripled to score Fischer.

In the top of the third, Leigraf tacked a double onto her stat line as she drove home Jenna Achs and Alexi Sanchez.

Fischer was dominant in the first couple of innings but surrendered a run in the third as the Owls made it 4-1 heading into the second half of game one. William Woods got another run in the fifth inning as a passed ball made it 4-2.

A handful of innings went by before the Spartans got back on the scoreboard, but they added an insurance run when Sanchez brought home Johnson on a sacrifice fly.

Taylor Whitehead picked up the save in game one as she slammed the door on the Owls, allowing just one hit in the final two innings, bringing home a 5-2 win for the Spartans.

Game Two Recap
The Spartans and Owls put their pitching and defense on display in game two as not much was going offensively for either side.

Missouri Baptist stranded a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth but finally broke through in the seventh as Emily Wright brought Leigraf home with a two-out single.
Â
Up 1-0, Whitehead retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, striking out two and securing a shutout victory and a sweep over William Woods. Whitehead went seven innings, struck out seven batters, and allowed just one hit throughout the contest.

A timely hit and stellar pitching provided the Spartans with a win over the Owls in game two.
