No. 19 MBU Baseball Earns Series Split Behind Two Shutouts

ST. LOUIS – No. 19 Missouri Baptist University baseball shut out the University of Health Sciences Pharmacy twice on Saturday afternoon to earn a series split. The Spartans are now 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the American Midwest Conference.
 
Game One Recap
Carter Sabol improved to 5-0 on the season after hurling six innings of shutout baseball. He allowed three hits and one walk, with 13 strikeouts.
 
The MBU lineup was held off the board until the bottom of the third when Blayne Yarger broke through with an RBI single to center field. Cole Robinson doubled home another to push the lead to 2-0.
 
In the sixth, Spartan catcher Jakob Kouneski came through with a two-run single. With runners still on base, Tyson Ludwig doubled home two more runs and was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.
 
Holding a 6-0 lead, Head Coach Eddie Uschold called in Greg Ryun from the bullpen. The Des Moines Area Community College product hit a batter with two outs before recording a strikeout to end the game.

Game Two Recap
Starting pitcher Teague Robertson worked around a lead off single in the top of the first in game two and received help from the offense in the bottom half. Yarger drove home a run with a single before a double play with the bases loaded brought home another run.
 
The MBU bats broke out in the bottom of the second for nine runs. Dominic Palma doubled home two, Yarger pushed one across with an infield single, Robinson worked a bases-loaded walk, Kouneski drove home a pair with a single to left field, a wild pitch brought in Miles Meadows, Ludwig doubled to left field for a run, and an error brought home the game's 11th run.
 
With all the runs he would need, Robertson went on to throw five shutout innings with five strikeouts, two walks, and three hits. Lefty JD Whitter struck out a pair in a scoreless sixth, and Brady Stephan tallied a strikeout in a scoreless seventh to close out the 11-0 win.
