No. 23 Spartans Surge Past Hornets on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS - Missouri Baptist honored 20 Spartans on Senior Day before their doubleheader against Harris-Stowe in which they handled the Hornets and increased their win streak to 12 straight games.

 

Game One Recap

Carter Sabol set the tone in the first inning when he struck out two of the three batters he faced. He proceeded to throw four scoreless innings allowing just one hit and picking up 10 strikeouts during his 12 outs.

 

The Spartans offense came out swinging on Senior Day posting four runs in the first, highlighted by a three-run bomb off of Jayden Orozco's bat.

 

Cole Robinson put a stellar swing on a ball with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning that went into right-center field, clearing the bases and putting the Spartans up 7-0.

 

Missouri Baptist tacked on six more runs in the third inning on just two hits, a grand slam from James Jett and a solo homerun from Robinson.

 

The Spartans put up one more run and held Harris-Stowe to just three runs throughout the contest on their way to a 14-3 victory in game one.

 

MBU's offense came through with big hits with runners in scoring position with half of their hits going for extra bases.

Game Two Recap

The Spartans and Hornets traded jabs in the first and third innings when both teams scored a run in each inning. Blayne Yarger drove in both runs with a ground ball and a solo homerun that left the ballpark in a hurry.

 

The Spartans put a huge number up on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when they posted a 10 in the run column. The inning started with a leadoff bomb from Lucas Lefebvre and they got their final few runs off of a Tyson Ludwig grand slam, his first homerun of the season.

 

Sam Myers threw four innings and allowed just three hits while striking out seven. Landon Albers, Joseph Giunta, and Taylon Laxson all tallied scoreless one inning outings to lead the Spartans to a 12-2 win over Harris-Stowe.

 

Missouri Baptist put on display some solid base running throughout the afternoon as they stole eight bases in two games.

 

The pair of wins over the Hornets boosts the Spartans to 12 straight wins.
