ALTON, Ill. – Missouri Baptist University wrapped up the MBU Invitational hosted at Spencer T. Olin in Alton, Ill., on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartan men took sixth of 15 while the women came in fifth out of seven teams.
The men tallied 651 total strokes and came in at 75 over par collectively, falling behind conference foe Central Baptist College (Ark.) by four strokes and the tournament leader Bethel University (Tenn.) by 46 strokes.
The women came in with 780 strokes, 31 off of UHSP in fourth place. Bethel also went on to win the women's tournament with 665 total strokes at +89.
Tomas Frencia paced things on the men's side with a ninth-place finish out of 79 golfers. On Monday he shot 74 with 16 pars and two bogeys on holes 10 and 11. He followed up with an 82 on the second day to give him 156 total strokes and put him 12 over par.
Luke Gardner shot eight over both days to finish 17
th followed by Pablo Vazquez on the MBU B squad at +19 in 20
th overall.
Bethel's Grady Lancaster won the event with 74s on both days to complete the tournament at +4.
Freshman
Priscila Rodriguez paced the Spartan women once again, taking 18
th out of 36 golfers at +40. Annabelle Cziezerski from Bethel won the women's tournament with an 82 on day one and a 76 on day two.
Next up is the AMC Championship Tournament hosted at Cooper's Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne, Ark. The two-day event begins on Monday, May 5.
