Perfect Game Clinches AMC Regular Season Title, No. 19 Spartans Outscore Hornets 32-0

ST. LOUIS - The No. 19 Spartans were ready to go from the jump today against the Harris-Stowe Hornets as they won both games in five innings each while the pitchers allowed just one hit. MBU scored more than seven runs three times throughout the two games leading to their 32 runs.

Game One Recap

The first inning highlighted game one for the Spartans as they scored 10 runs on seven hits. The Spartans took a handful of free bases from walks and picked up some timely hits with runners on base. Brooklynn Fischer drove in a trio of runs in the inning and Makayla Johnson drove in two.

With a 10 run cushion, Fischer went to work in the circle and allowed just one hit in her five innings of shutout work while racking up 10 strikeouts.

10 different Spartans got a hit or an RBI in game one, leading MBU to their seventh straight conference win.

The Spartans scored in four of the five innings on their way to a 15-0 victory in the first of two games.

Game Two Recap

Taylor Whitehead put on quite a show in game two, striking out nine Hornets in five innings of work and picking up a perfect game.

Like in game one, the Spartans put a crooked number up on the scoreboard in the first. This time MBU scored eight runs on six hits, and Jenna Achs and Allison Leigraf both drove in a pair of runs. Missouri Baptist was given plenty of free bases again off of walks, hit-by-pitches, passed balls, and wild pitches.

In the third inning, Missouri Baptist struck for seven more runs, increasing their lead to 15. The Spartans were in need of a double in the inning to hit for the cycle. Camryn Kessler homered, Madison Leckrone tripled, and multiple Spartans hit singles.

The Spartans got another pair of runs in the fourth inning, and held on to win their eighth straight 17-0.

Whitehead and Fischer have been an incredible duo for the Spartans throughout the season, combining for a 32-5 record in their 145 innings.

The perfect game 17-0 victory over Harris-Stowe clinched the AMC Regular Season Title for the Spartans. Winning the conference regular season gives the Spartans an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament and the No. 1 seed in the AMC Conference Tournament at Williams Baptist.
