LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - Missouri Baptist hit the road to take on the Mustangs of Central Baptist and gutted out a 3-2 win in game one before slugging their way to a 19-3 victory in the second game of the day.
Â
Game One Recap
Both teams were making quick work of the others' batters throughout the first three innings until CBC hit a leadoff solo homer in the bottom of the third, placing the Mustangs up 1-0.
Â
The Spartans wasted no time in mounting a response as James Jett got on base with an infield single and Cole Robinson hit a two-run shot that gave MBU a 2-1 lead. The Spartans were threatening to tack on some more runs in the fourth, but stranded the bases loaded.
Â
Central Baptist grinded to get a chance to score the tying run in the bottom half of the inning and a two-out single did just that, tying the game at two apiece.
Â
Jett found his way back on base and stole second before Robinson made a productive out that advanced him to third. Robinson's good at-bat made it possible for Jett to score on a passed ball, and that is what he did, giving the Spartans a 3-2 lead in the fifth.
Â
Carter Sabol threw a complete game allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out nine Mustangs.
Â
The Spartans held onto their one run lead for the final three innings on their way to claiming the postponed first game of the series at Central Baptist.
