Missouri Baptist Dominates Conference Doubleheader Against Mission

ST. LOUIS - Following a rainy weekend in the St. Louis area, the Spartans played host to the Mission Patriots at Maryville Softball Field and Missouri Baptist's high-powered offense and stifling defense powered them to a pair of wins.

Game One Recap

Following Brooklynn Fischer striking out the side, the Spartan offense came out slugging as they plated six runs on four hits, highlighted by a pair of two-run homeruns off the bats of Fischer and Miranda Ladson. Missouri Baptist was not satisfied with the six run inning and backed it up with a 10 run inning in the second.

The whole Spartans roster dominated throughout the first game as 13 different players tallied hits.

Fischer took care of business in the circle, racking up 10 strikeouts in five innings of shutout work.

Missouri Baptist tacked on three more runs in the third inning on their way to a 19-0 victory over the Patriots in the first of two games.

Winning Pitcher: Brooklyn Fischer (13-2)

Losing Pitcher: K. Potter (6-7)

Batting Leaders

Brooklynn Fischer: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Game Two Recap

The second game featured different action than the first as the Spartans held control of the game, but they did not manage to put up a 19 in the runs column. Missouri Baptist struck first when Allison Leigraf drove Fischer home on an opposite field single in the first inning.

Fischer came around to score again in the third inning when Jenna Achs roped a double down the left field line, making it 2-0.

Taylor Whitehead displayed a dominant pitching performance throughout the game with 13 punch outs, allowing just two hits and no runs.

The Spartans came alive in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Natalie Archer, Makayla Johnson, Jacie Dees, and Fischer all came around to score. MBU got one more in the fifth inning when Fischer drove Dees home, making it 7-0.

Mission had runners at the corners with one away in the top of the sixth with a chance to score their first run of the afternoon, but the Spartans turned a quick and beautiful 4-6-3 double play that sent them into the bottom half of the inning still with a seven run lead.

Leigraf and Camryn Kessler found their way on base before Archer hit a double into right center field, plating both runners and giving the Spartans their second short-game victory of the day.
