The Spartans Shine Bright Against Owls, Earn Spot in AMC Tournament Championship

CONWAY, ARK. - Missouri Baptist was ready to play from the start as they grabbed an early multiple run lead and never looked back on their way to a 10-1 win over William Woods. With the victory, Missouri Baptist earned a spot in the Championship with a chance to claim the program's first AMC Tournament.

Jenna Achs led off the ballgame with a walk, and Brooklynn Fischer put the Spartans up 2-0 just one out into the game with a two-run homer.

Taylor Whitehead did her thing in the first inning, striking out two and keeping the Owls out of the runs column.

Up by two in the second inning, Allison Leigraf led off with a double, Makayla Johnson singled and stole second, Camryn Kessler single driving in Leigraf, and Wright brought Johnson in to score on a single of her own all before William Woods could record an out, increasing their lead to four runs.

William Woods got on the scoreboard with a two-out solo shot, making it 4-1, but the Spartans answered with some runs of their own in the third inning. Four Spartans reached base safely to start the inning, and they all came around to score as Missouri Baptist plated four runs, on three hits, and stranded nobody on base.

With a seven run cushion, Whitehead went to work and got 12 of the next 14 batters out. The MBU offense struck again in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on two hits and increasing their lead to nine runs and securing a six inning short-game victory for the Spartans.

Whitehead completed her outing claiming her 19th win of the campaign with a complete game and eight strikeouts.

The 10-1 victory placed the Spartans in the AMC Tournament Championship, and Missouri Baptist will have a chance to win the program's first AMC Tournament in their final season in the conference.

The Spartans are undefeated so far in the AMC Tournament, and in the double elimination style tournament, MBU will have two chances to bring home a win and the trophy. Missouri Baptist awaits the winner of this afternoon's game between William Woods and Central Baptist.
