CANTON, Mo. – Missouri Baptist University women's basketball dropped to 4-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference after a 70-45 loss at Culver-Stockton College on Wednesday night. The Spartans could not overcome a 9-18 deficit after the first quarter despite seven points and 11 rebounds from
Riley Jansen.
MBU shot 17-58 (29.3 percent) from the field in Charles Field House, including 4-20 from behind the arc.
Paula Puzule and
Eva Parks led the team in scoring with 10 points each, followed by
Abigail Williams with eight points despite getting into foul trouble in the third quarter.
The Spartans shot 4-18 from the field in the first quarter and fell deeper into a hole heading into the locker room at halftime after a nine-point second from Misora Nambara, who went 3-4 from deep.
The Wildcats had a pair of five-point performances in the third quarter from Nambara and Avery Oetting as they continued to distribute the scoring. They wrapped up the win in the fourth with a 70-45 final score.
The Spartans are now 5-9 overall and sit in a four-way tie for sixth place in the conference with a 4-4 record.
MBU will continue conference play at home in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC against Peru State College on Saturday, Jan. 10. The tip-off is at noon on the
